Oregon Individual and Family Health Insurance

If you do not have the opportunity to participate in an employer group benefit plan, you can purchase Individual health insurance for you and/or your family. As an independent agency we represent several companies and can help you find the coverage that best meets your needs.

Here's three ways we can help:

Pre-Existing Medical Conditions

Will my insurance company cover health problems I already have? Possibly! Most insurance plans exclude pre-existing health conditions to new members for 6 -12 months of initial enrollment. A pre-existing condition is a medical condition for which medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment was received or recommended during the six months before your enrollment.

Very important! If you've had insurance coverage within the past 63 days, you may be able to get credit for prior insurance coverage. By providing your new insurance company a copy of your Certificate of Coverage from your prior insurer you can reduce or eliminate the waiting period for pre-existing health conditions. Insurance coverage is creditable if there is no gap greater than 63 days between the last day covered and the new coverage effective date. This is why it is important to bridge gaps in insurance with short term medical, COBRA, Continuation or Portability coverage.

Special Note: When you apply for an individual insurance plan, you will be asked to complete a lengthy questionnaire that requests your medical information from the past five years, including any condition for which you take medication. Be sure to explain on the form if you no longer have a medical problem. If the insurance company sells you a policy, your application becomes part of the policy and is considered a legal document. Your insurance company can investigate and rescind, or take back, your policy for up to two years after you apply if you provide inaccurate information on your application or fail to disclose a condition occurring within the past five years.

Dental Insurance

Dental insurance encourages people to visit the dentist by lowering and removing financial barriers for routine care and providing resources to pay for needed treatment. Dental insurance benefits usually cover all or most of costs for exams, cleanings and X-rays. Typically 50% coverage is provided for major dental care such as crowns, bridges and root canals to an annual maximum benefit amount. Dental insurance is available to small businesses and individuals and families.
